I Find this section of the built in Help Guides to be one of the more useful passages:
The SMF Bulletin Board Code and SMF Smileys reference tables.

Note that not all Smilies are shown - just the Default Set. I've taken the liberty of adding a few I'm familiar with and would miss if I didn't have them handy ...
